How To Choose The Suitable Steel Balls For The Ball Mill

The grinding effect of the ball mill is realized by the friction between the internal steel balls and material. Therefore, the quality of the steel balls has a very significant impact on the cost of grinding media, production efficiency, and grinding quality of ball mill machine. So, how to choose the suitable steel balls for ball grinding mill?

1. The diameter of steel ball of mineral ball mill with double compartment partition plate should be smaller than that of the single compartment plate ball mill with the same discharge section.

2. The surface shape of the mining stone ball mill liner is also one of the factors that need to be considered in steel balls matching. When the surface shape of the liner leads to insufficient steel balls carrying capacity, the lifting height of the steel balls will be decreased and the impact force will be reduced. Then we should choose the steel balls with large diameter.

3. The selection of the diameter of steel balls has a certain relationship with the throughput per unit volume of the material in the hard stone ball mill. The diameter of the steel balls should be larger when the amount of recycled material is high; otherwise, it is smaller.

4. Select appropriate steel balls according to the granularity, hardness, grindability of materials and fineness requirements of finished products. When the material has small particle size, good grindability and fine finished particle size, it is necessary to strengthen the grinding effect on the material and select the steel balls with smaller diameter. On the contrary, if the hardness of the material is high, steel balls with large diameters should be used.

5. The porosity of the mixed steel balls group with large steel balls is larger than that of the mixed steel balls group with small steel balls. Generally, four graded balls are used, with less large and small steel balls and more steels balls in the middle of the high energy ball mill, that is, "less at both ends and more in the middle".

6. Good steel ball manufacturing technology is an important factor affecting the service life of steel balls. There should be no defects on the surface or inside of the steel ball, such as shrinkage holes, cracks, etc. Because this will reduce the performance of the steel ball, and even cause the steel balls to be broken seriously.

7. Due to wear, the weight and diameter of the steel balls will be decreased, so it is necessary to check and replace the new steel balls regularly to ensure sufficient ball loading. In addition, many steel balls with small diameter will be added in the cylinder after the mineral ball mill is used for a period of time. Therefore, generally after 3000 hours of operation, it is necessary to stop the ball mill and clean the steel balls in order to remove the steel balls with too small diameter or damaged, and then add new steel balls.

8. Selection of steel ball material. Generally, the greater the hardness of the steel ball, the better the wear resistance. The hardness of steel balls is not the higher the better, because the impact toughness of the steel ball will decrease as the hardness increases. Therefore, the hardness and material of steel balls should be considered at the same time.
